Michael Buthe’s painting Untitled (Silver Stars and Gold Spirals), which measures approximately 295 cm in height and 485 cm in width, has been in the collection of the Kunstmuseum Bonn since February 2005.
Due to its fragile condition and flaking layers of paint, the work could no longer be exhibited. After a comprehensive examination and condition assessment, a conservation concept was developed.
In the summer of 2020, the work of art was restored by a team of expert conservators in a collection room of the Kunstmuseum as part of a show restoration. The conservation project was realized with the help of the des Restaurierungsprogramm Bildende Kunst des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen. We would like to thank the Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft (MKW) and Verband der Restauratoren (VDR) for their support.
