100 Years of GEDOK

To mark the 100th anniversary of GEDOK, the Kunstmuseum Bonn is honouring the organisation’s exceptional commitment with an exhibition featuring a selection of prints that have been donated to the collection since 1988. Founded in Hamburg in 1926 by Ida Dehmel, GEDOK was the first association dedicated to promoting women artists in the German-speaking world. Its aim was to bring together women across all artistic disciplines, improve their working conditions and enhance their visibility in the public sphere.

From 1988 to 2019, the Dr.-Theobald-Simon-Prize was endowed by the Bonn-based patron Gabriele Vossebein (1935–2019) as the GEDOK Art Prize in memory of her father, Theobald Simon (1906–1978). Following the death of Gabriele Vossebein, her daughter Franziska Behrentin took over the sponsorship of the prize, which has since been known as the Gabriele Vossebein-Prize. The main prize is endowed with 5,000 euros, and the graphic art prize is accompanied by a donation worth 500 euros to the Kunstmuseum Bonn.

In parallel, GEDOK exhibitions are taking place at the Stadtmuseum Siegburg and in many other German cities.
