Children and young people are invited to transform the museum space, through painting, into a wild and species-rich animal kingdom. Inspiration is provided by animals from the neighbouring Museum Alexander Koenig. Penguin, brown hare, rat, polar bear, pigeon, weevil or antelope: which animals will move into the Kunstmuseum is not yet known, as this will also be decided by the children and young people who participate collaboratively over the course of the nine months.
At the heart of the museum, a painterly environment filled with animals — and with their traits, personalities and particularities — grows continuously. Their depictions speak of strength, self-efficacy, responsibility and of being embedded within a complex and multifaceted cosmos. Everyone is invited to help shape this diversity with paint and brush.
The painted wall sections can be renewed; the animals may migrate out of the museum to create new places for themselves and, in turn, involve children and young people there in continuing painterly processes. The gathering of animals encourages children and young people to experience beauty, strangeness, danger and vulnerability within a participatory space shaped collectively.
